Friends of Scouting
Each year, as part of the overall fund raising effort of the Council, we enroll as Friends of Scouting our alumni, Scout families, volunteers and other Scouting friends in the communities we serve. These friends make a financial investment in the Scouting program to help ensure its continued success. Local volunteers in each of the communities we serve conduct this effort as a campaign.
FOS monies are used to supplement other funds received by the Council, such as United Way support, activity and camping revenue, and other self-generated funds. FOS makes up almost one-fifth of the total income of the Overland Trails Council.
The annual Friends of Scouting (FOS) campaign makes up the balance of the dollars needed. This campaign allows individuals, businesses and organizations who wish to support Scouting an opportunity to do so. More specifically, by supporting FOS, you help keep:
- the cost of Council camps affordable
- the Council Service Centers and camp facilities in top condition
- the promise of a quality Scouting experience to your son or daughter and others in Scouting
It costs the Overland Trails Council between $200 and $300 to provide a quality Scouting experience for one registered Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturer, or Explorer per year. Parents of Scouts and other neighborhood and community members play an invaluable role in the annual FOS campaign by contributing money that reflects their respect for what the program can achieve and their ability to give. Help keep Scouting strong by participating as a Friend of Scouting. Thank you for your generous support!
